Sobre este título

The 5th year of the war finds the Young family divided between the army camp and Cambridge as the Continentals face the British on a new southern front.

"It’s 1779 and the war in the South is just heating up. Captain Davis has followed his calling, leaving Adelaide and I to aid Mr. Musgrave in the North. I never imagined my heart could be split in so many ways. I miss him . . . deeply.

"With the French fleet at war with the British in the West Indies, we’ve been resigned to keep the redcoats surrounded in New York while the militias in the South try to gain the upper hand. Word travels slowly and we await each report anxiously.

"For now, the only thing that can rival my aching heart is my aching back. Living with the Bells is a tempering test all its own, and my posture seems to ever be on Mrs. Bell’s mind. If it weren’t for Adelaide, I fear my resolve may have broken long ago and I would have left for Cambridge on the first wagon headed that way. Even with her constant encouragement, Mrs. Bell’s quest for my perfection keeps me ever at my wits’ end.

"For now, I must bear my loneliness, endure my circumstances, and pray neither of them hinders me in my work. If we are able to gain the upper hand in the South, the redcoats will have nowhere else to go in the states, and all our sacrifices and endurances will at last have their reward. May our gracious Lord let it be."

~ Mercy Young
