Introduction
Religion has always asked one simple thing of its followers: faith. But in today’s world of endless choice, instant gratification, and personal convenience, faith is no longer practiced with the same depth, discipline, or devotion. Instead, many have become what I call “Cafeteria Catholics”, believers who stroll through the buffet line of doctrine, picking what they like, leaving behind what they don’t.
They embrace the parts of faith that comfort them, forgiveness, ritual, tradition, but turn away from the parts that challenge them, sacrifice, obedience, discipline, and truth. The result is a hollowed-out form of Christianity that looks religious on the outside but lacks the fire, struggle, and commitment that true faith demands.
This book is not an attack on believers. It is a wake-up call. It is a challenge to look honestly at how convenience has corrupted conviction. It is about asking hard questions:
- Can a faith stripped of sacrifice survive?
- Can you truly call yourself a believer if you reject the parts of belief that make you uncomfortable?
- Has modern Christianity become less about God and more about self?
The Cafeteria Catholic is not about condemning, it is about confronting. It’s about exposing the spiritual fast food culture that has replaced the richness of tradition and discipline. And it’s about finding the courage to stop picking and choosing, and instead rediscover the power of a complete, uncompromising faith.
