Sobre este áudio

Brute leads a lonely life in a world where magic is commonplace. He is seven and a half feet of ugly, and of disreputable descent. No one, including Brute, expects him to be more than a laborer. But heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and when he is maimed while rescuing a prince, Brute's life changes abruptly. He is summoned to serve at the palace in Tellomer as a guard for a single prisoner. It sounds easy but turns out to be the challenge of his life.

Rumors say the prisoner, Gray Leynham, is a witch and a traitor. What is certain is that he has spent years in misery: blind, chained, and rendered nearly mute by an extreme stutter. And he dreams of people's deaths - dreams that come true.

As Brute becomes accustomed to palace life and gets to know Gray, he discovers his own worth, first as a friend and a man and then as a lover. But Brute also learns heroes sometimes face difficult choices and that doing what is right can bring danger of its own.

if you like medieval fantasy, outcasts and underdogs, found family and MM romance: this is the book for you.

in a classical medieval setting, this story focuses on the journey of two men, wronged too many times by life (and the gods), who strive to find their peace in one another.

brute is the epitome of selfless heroes and everything about him is loveable. gray is a man harshly punished for a selfish mistake in his youth. together they find their own humanity again, after decades of being mistreated and abused.

if you like action based fantasy stories, maybe you'll be a bit disappointed to find out the most magic in this book is a bit of healing and foresight.

but if you like character development, you won't mind the slow pacing one bit (i didn't). this is the highlight of the book for me, and watching as both characters grew alongside one another was just as interesting as any magical battles for me. their friendship is deep and strong, and they make quite the pair, bringing out the best of each other.

the reader is treated respectfully by the author who, while keeping the story interesting, never once betrays the reader with unbelievable or far fetched plot twists. the story is comfortably predictable, but the author's creativity doesn't allow that to detract from the quality. the characters are honest amd raw, and you can trust each of them to keep to their own roles.

overall, this was a very pleasant read. i loved each character deeply, and cheered and cried along with them with every celebration or tragedy.

more than romance, the friendship is the highlight
