One night of passion turned into a week of romance in Paris. A week of romance in Paris turned into a love affair filled with passion that will change both women forever. Circumstances beyond their control forced Alexandra to choose between her past and her present and Blake thought she had no choice but to let her go. In the end, life made choices for them and maybe it was just not meant to be, or was it?

The plot is really good, and the way the story between Blake and Alexandra was built is incredible. Their connection felt deep and meaningful, though at times I found myself a bit lost in their personalities. It wasn’t always clear how their character development was evolving, and I struggled to fully understand where each was emotionally at certain points.

I also wish we had seen a bit more of Taylor, especially considering the final plot twist. Sixteen years of a relationship ended so quickly, and while I don’t think Alexandra needed to dwell on it, I did feel the absence of a few extra chapters exploring that ending. I found myself torn between her long-term relationship with Taylor and her new connection with Blake. There wasn’t much negativity between Alexandra and Taylor apart from the reason for their breakup, which made it harder to believe that such a long relationship could end so abruptly and be replaced so quickly by a new love, even though the chemistry and development with Blake were beautifully written. I’m definitely hoping the next book dives deeper into that.

The sex scenes didn’t fully work for me. There were quite a few instances of casual sex throughout the story, and because of that, when Blake and Alexandra finally made love, it didn’t feel as special as it should have. The emotional weight of that moment got a bit lost amid all the earlier explicit scenes. It’s probably just a personal thing, but I tend to prefer when intimacy serves the emotional development of the story rather than feeling repetitive or purely physical.

As for the narration, I have nothing but praise for Quinn Riley. She’s my favorite narrator in the world, and once again she delivered beautifully. I loved the idea of having different narrators for each point of view, but I felt that Charlie L. Wood’s parts came across a bit more mechanical. It occasionally broke the flow for me, and I had to rewind a few sections to stay on track. In moments like that, I feel the audiobook experience doesn’t work as well for me as reading does.

Overall, it’s a beautiful story with strong emotional undertones and a great concept, but the execution in certain parts of the writing and narration made it a little harder to stay fully immersed. Still, I’m already eager for the next one.
