Sobre este áudio
Tom Billinge’s works Undying Glory: The Solar Path of Greek Heroes and Age of Heroes: Beyond the Solar Path each delve into Greek mythology and the archetype of the hero. Within this context, Orpheus emerges as another significant figure–a hero whose influence permeated both mythic and spiritual realms of ancient Greek culture.
Orpheus also embodies a unique version of the hero, distinct from more traditional warriors like Hercules, Achilles, and Odysseus. Orpheus’ heroism is chiefly defined by his artistic talents, and in turn the ability to inspire and enrapture. This ecstatic quality placed him at the center of ancient Greece’s culture of sacred initiation expressed in its “mysteries.” The Orphic Mysteries in particular emphasized profound themes such as death, rebirth, and the soul’s journey.
Unlike other mystery lineages, the Orphic originated from a tradition of virile warrior rites. Though tempered in its later forms, the archaic remnants leave clues for seekers to follow on a journey of Return. As an archetypal Indo-European shamanic initiator, Orpheus guides aspirants of the Mysteries on their heroic spiritual quest.
