Sobre este áudio
We see it every day. Sometimes we offer the change in our pocket. Sometimes we simply look away and go about our day. But the issues remain the same. As of the year 2023, there is an estimated 582,000 people homeless in the United States. Can you—a single person in a vast sea of 330 million Americans—truly make a positive difference in today’s homeless epidemic?
The answer is yes, and Officer Nate Schwiethale is living proof.
Officer Nate Schwiethale, a veteran police officer in the largest city in his state spent years issuing tickets and arresting homeless individuals, simply to see the judicial revolving door bring them right back to the streets.
Nate came to believe that there had to be a better way. He did his research, then with raw determination and relentless work started a Police Homeless Outreach Team, which has helped hundreds of homeless people find housing and treatment for life-controlling issues such as substance abuse and mental illness, all while saving tax payers dollars.
Officer Nate walks us through his challenging journey with individual accounts and of lives changed, including a feisty homeless elder named Rooster who would in return teach Nate a few things about life.
