Master Sergeant and American hero Israel Del Toro (DT) Jr.’s life and spiritual journey is one of resilience, hope, encouragement, and the enduring strength of family bonds. It all began at a young age and a promise he made to his father. That promise was echoed in another DT made to his son, which then guided him through many hardships and tribulations.

On December 5, 2005, DT’s life changed completely. While he was on a mission in the Air Force, the Humvee he was in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED.) The resulting explosion burned over 80% of DT’s body and he was given a 15% chance of survival. His determination to live and the healing process were just the beginning.

Many of us go through life focused on daily activities, to do lists, and appointments. . . day in and day out. Then something happens to shake our world to the core, and we start seeing everything much differently. This is what spiritual awakening can be about. Steve Taylor PhD is the author of 14 books on psychology and spirituality and is a senior lecturer in psychology at Leeds Beckett University. His work includes research about the essential qualities of enlightenment and wakefulness, and he has identified eight specific qualities that arise as spiritual awakening.

Awakening is the greatest adventure we can undertake as human beings. In this episode, Dr. Taylor describes what enlightenment is and how people experience it.
