Simply a book review podcast. We read the books, then we talk about them. Each review is in two parts: a spoiler-free summary and review, and then a spoiler-heavy in-depth discussion and review. Logo designed by Justin Miller @justinmiller.design© 2025 Badass Literature Society

This month we read and review The Wren in the Holly Library by K.A. Linde. Like all of our reviews, the first part is spoiler free.

Here's a little about The Wren in the Holly Library:

Can you love the dark when you know what it hides?

Some things aren’t supposed to exist outside of our imagination.

Thirteen years ago, monsters emerged from the shadows and plunged Kierse’s world into a cataclysmic war of near-total destruction. The New York City she knew so well collapsed practically overnight.

In the wake of that carnage, the Monster Treaty was created. A truce...of sorts.

But tonight, Kierse―a gifted and fearless thief―will break that treaty. She’ll enter the Holly Library...not knowing it’s the home of a monster.

He’s charming. Quietly alluring. Terrifying. But he knows talent when he sees it; it’s just a matter of finding her price.

Now she’s locked into a dangerous bargain with a creature unlike any other. She’ll sacrifice her freedom. She’ll offer her skills. Together, they’ll put their own futures at risk.

But he’s been playing a game across centuries―and once she joins in, there will be no escape...

On this special bonus episode of Badass Literature Society we’re doing something a little different—no book review, no deep dive, just a fun round of Bookish Would You Rather. Questions all about books, reading habits, tropes, and more. None of us know what’s coming, so we’re going in totally blind.

  • Bloodmarked (The Legendborn Cycle #2)
    Apr 30 2025

    Send us a text

This month we read and review Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn, which is book 2 in The Legendborn Cycle. Like all of our reviews, the first part is spoiler free.

(Don't forget to check out the outtakes at the end of the episode!)

    Here's a little about Bloodmarked:

The shadows have risen, and the line is law.

All Bree wanted was to uncover the truth behind her mother’s death. So she infiltrated the Legendborn Order, a secret society descended from King Arthur’s knights—only to discover her own ancestral power. Now, Bree has become someone new: A Medium. A Bloodcrafter. A Scion. But the ancient war between demons and the Order is rising to a deadly peak. And Nick, the Legendborn boy Bree fell in love with, has been kidnapped.

Bree wants to fight, but the Regents who rule the Order won’t let her. To them, she is an unknown girl with unheard-of power, and as the living anchor for the spell that preserves the Legendborn cycle, she must be protected. When the Regents reveal they will do whatever it takes to hide the war, Bree and her friends must go on the run to rescue Nick themselves. But enemies are everywhere, Bree’s powers are unpredictable and dangerous, and she can’t escape her growing attraction to Selwyn, the mage sworn to protect Nick until death.

If Bree has any hope of saving herself and the people she loves, she must learn to control her powers from the ancestors who wielded them first—without losing herself in the process.
