  • You only need one of their albums
    May 20 2024

Progressive music is a terrible name for a genre, isn’t it? If we take the dictionary definition (“happening or developing gradually or in stages”), prog doesn’t really live up to that. Instead, it’s a series of long winded nerdy time signatures and modes: ideas repeated since the late 1960s. No, you stop being so petty minded.

This week, we tackle the prickly subject of only needing one album from a band. Some bands, you don’t need an entire album of, with others, you’re missing a journey. But, what about that band that’s incredible for an album, and nothing else nears it again?

Of course, this is all tackled in a scatological-friendly approach. As it should be, right? And Sam reveals his deep love for documentaries on progressive bands and his deep mistrust of progressive bands actual output.

Leading us onto another subject: what bands would be better left as documentaries?

  • Killer compilation albums

What makes a great compilation album? Can they define a genre, or even a generation? How many of your favourite bands did you discover through compilation albums? Do you have a compilation album in your list of your most favourite albums? Do some of your fingernails grow much faster than others?
