  • In the Lap of the Gods...Revisited
    Dec 18 2025

Brideshead Revisited: The Sacred & Profane Memories of Captain Charles Ryder is a novel by the English writer Evelyn Waugh, first published in 1945. It follows, from the 1920s to the early 1940s, the life and romances of Charles Ryder, especially his friendship with the Flytes, a family of wealthy English Catholics who live in a palatial mansion, Brideshead Castle. Ryder has relationships with two of the Flytes: Lord Sebastian and Lady Julia. The novel explores themes including Catholicism and nostalgia for the age of English aristocracy.

Oh, shit, hang on. I think I've copied the wrong notes here.... ah well, fuck it, it's late!

This week's episode covers the epic closer, "In the Lap of the Gods...Revisited", the final track from 1975's "Sheer Heart Attack"!

If Randy were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it "In the lap of the Gods part deux" or possibly, "Good song!"

NOTE: Skip forward to 23:48 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The music at the end of the episode is the one of Kev's favourite Randy Reggae songs; Cube Two Four. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/_IFkiAbDM64

  • Dancer
    Dec 11 2025

Once upon a time, there was a small wooden puppet who dreamed of being a dancer. All his puppet friends told him "You'll never be a dancer! You lack the requisite dexterity because of your inarticulate limbs!" The little wooden puppet wouldn't listen and set out to the big city to find a dance master to help him accomplish his dreams. For 12 days and 12 nights he journeyed, by hill and by stream, by wood and by plain. Eventually, weary and slightly worm-chewed, he came upon a roadside inn from whence came the sounds of music which made the puppet's feet start to jig and his body to convulse into electric rhythms. He walked toward the door and as it opened and the warm yellow light of lanterns bathed his upturned, hopeful face, some great lumbering drunken twat staggered out and stepped on him, crushing him into fifteen splintered, lifeless pieces. The moral of the story is, if you're a small wooden puppet, don't wander around outside nightclubs in Clacton because, chances are, you're gonna git squished by a bell end!

Oh, this week's episode covers "Dancer", the second track from 1982's "Hot Space"!

If Randy were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it "Rock out with your cock out" or possibly, "Jam out with your clam out, however it worst best for you!"

NOTE: Skip forward to 25:10 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The music at the end of the episode is the deeply philosophical and profound "Lunch", a treatise on the intellectual colonisation of the service industry by corporate bad actors and the unwillingness of an apathetic public to discern between quality and mass consumption. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/alaMHfT8CcY

  • One Year of Love
    Dec 4 2025

Deacy wrote some absolute bangers for Queen. Another One Bites the Dust, Spread Your Wings, Your My Best Friend. But he also wrote a few more mellow tracks like In Only Seven Days and this week's track, "One Year of Love", which was his only sole-writing credit on A Kind of Magic. His two co-writes with Freddie from the same record, well... we weren't fans. Mainly because they're absolutely terrible! So what will Randy think of Queen heading into sax territory? He does like it when bands get the horn... We also discuss Record Store Day and we dive into a question about who exactly it is who is shaping modern popular music!

If Randy were to title this podcast, he’d probably call it “Didn't do it this week Kev” or possibly, “I'm a podcast mould breaker, no regular formats can hold me!!!”...

NOTE: Skip forward to 22:32 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The music at the end of the episode is Hijack the Show, by Absofunkinlutely. Put your guitar on, turn your amp up to ten, and rock out with the Cardinal.

  • You've Got My Number (Why Don't You Use It!)
    Nov 27 2025

The Cardinal is promising to be 10% nicer to Mrs. Cardinal but I'm not convinced! We talk about the sadly departed Jimmy Cliff and how you really had to be a very good musician back in "the day" (not sure which day that was or what the cutoff is, but hey, you know what we mean!) We also get another scintillating format idea from Kev and Randy contends that we really are a couple of agreeable fuckers. There are questions from Ruud and Barry, but first, we have the small matter of some Northern Irish punk music to deal with!

If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "You've got my number", or possibly, "but I'm not in on Wednesdays so leave a message with me mam"!

The twentieth installment in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by Kofi powerhouse, Al Dudeney. It's "The Undertones" with "You've Got My Number (Why Don't You Use It!)"

The song at the end is the beautiful live performance of "Many Rivers to Cross" by Jimmy Cliff, who passed away on the day of recording. The performance is taken from 1969 ahead of the release of his self-titled third album. You can watch the performance here: https://youtu.be/EzS-Jis7kfA

  • Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)
    Nov 20 2025

Randy's keeping it tight and to the neat! He'd also like to buy the world a coke - but Kev's not having it! Our movie review section could become another pod within a pod (possibly a pod within a pod within a pod if we do it during the kofi episodes!) and along the way, hats are fucked and Kev's status as an international podcaster is yet again highlighted by Randy as a cause for celebration. We talk about one hit wonders and just how in the hell do you warm up for a gig? There's also the small matter of "Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together), the final song from Queen's magnificent A Day at the Races album, but how will we vote on it??!!! I mean, I know because I edited the episode, and Randy knows because he was there, but YOU don't know and really, it's you guys that are important, not us!!!

If Randy were to title this food covering, he’d probably call it “Saran Wrap” or possibly, “Sauron Wrap”...

NOTE: Skip forward to 25:50 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.

The music at the end of the episode "Big Brother", Randy's superb song about the surveillance state from Absofunkinlutely's Red Album! Check out the video here : https://youtu.be/RVQyG7kfOEI

  • Made in Heaven
    Nov 13 2025

The one where Kev gets back from Gainesville. And Randy sticks the boot in. Repeatedly! We also have a very important hard drive update from the Cardinal in which he lets us know whether he's been able to salvage all those fart noise sound effects he's been working on for the past couple of decades. Also, Randy recommends documentaries, but only one's he's never seen! We'd sure appreciate it if someone could watch the Boys 2 Men documentary and get back to us with the Coles' notes! After all this foolishness, we sit down and listen to another rehash of old material from the last Queen album; "Made in Heaven".

If Kev were to title this episode, he’d probably call it “Made in Heaven” or possibly, “Made in Heaven”...

  • 10 From 40 #three
    Nov 6 2025

It's time to look back at another forty songs that we've covered. We'll talk about where we agreed, where we disagreed, and go through our ten favourite tracks from those last forty! We also had our listeners offer their picks and collated them on our website so we could figure out exacrtly how wrong you all are!

The song at the end is the final track from Randy Woods Band's self-titled debut album, "Faded American" and you can find it here: https://youtu.be/jjT1fsuj7yE

  • A Winter's Tale
    Oct 30 2025

Get your tomatoes in people, winter is upon us!!! There's the usual buffoonery; The Cardinal is having problems with his "drive" and Mrs. Cardinal probably isn't happy about it! Kev's heading to a show next year and we dig into the finer points of lyricism and whether it's all just a big old bag of bollocks! Oh, and somewhere in there, we also talk about the last song written solely by our hero, Freddie; "A Winter's Tale" from 1995's posthumous release, "Made in Heaven".

If Kev were to title this episode, he’d probably call it “Lake Geneva Shoreline” or possibly, “What a way to sign off”

NOTE: Skip forward to 28:49 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin.
