After being dumped by his girlfriend Robin (Leslie Mann), Steven Kovak (Matthew Broderick) moves into a new apartment, and a simple bribe to the quirky cable installer Chip (Jim Carrey) for free cable sets off a wild chain of events.
What begins as a harmless gesture spirals into a one-sided obsession, as Chip aggressively forces his way into Steven’s life. As Steven tries to pull away, Chip’s antics turn sinister and hilariously unhinged. Meanwhile, the bizarre televised trial of former child star Sam Sweet (Ben Stiller), accused of killing his twin brother, unfolds in the background.
