Welcome to the “UX Design in the Deep End” podcast, this is Chuck LoCascio.

Chuck here, what does it mean to create a user experience for a conversational AI that
is more than just a simple Q&A, FAQ look up tool? How often have you heard, “Sorry I
didn't understand, please try again.” Please try again, please try again.

How many of you have been trapped in a call tree before? When you press zero, which
we all do, the set of options are repeated with no way out but to hang up the call. How
frustrating is that user experience? What if you could interact with a conversational AI
the same way you would interact with a human? And what considerations need to be
made in order to make that possible?

With me today is Mohamad Nasr-Azadani, who is a principal data scientist at Accenture
Labs. Mohamad has a postdoctoral degree from UC Santa Barbara on gravitational
currents occurring in the submarine and atmospheric environments.

In your own words Mohamad, I recall you saying you became a champion of UX after
working together? Which is something that is really special to hear. When we talk about
this subject, I think one of the key “Aha moments” that you uncovered is really this vast
delta between UX Designers and Data Scientists, and in some business organizations
there aren’t many opportunities to work together.

This is before ChatGPT days, Mohamad and I worked together on AI Chat Solutions in 2019.

For those new designers listening I hope there are some key takeaways in how (UX
Designers and Data Scientists) can collaborate to create truly meaningful experiences
for the end user.
