Today we're talking about something that touches almost every corner of the modern world, whether we notice it or not: human migration. Why do people leave the place they call home? And why do they choose to go where they go?

Geographers usually explain this using something called the push-pull model. Push factors are the things that drive people away from home. Pull factors are the things that draw them toward a new place. And in real life, it's almost never just one or the other — it's usually both, working together. Think of a young person from a small village. Maybe there just aren't enough jobs at home — that's the push. But a nearby city offers higher wages and a shot at a better education — that's the pull. Two forces, one decision.
