With Baron Barlucci escaping London on his way to New York with Abigail Drake, Dr. Watson is certain they’ve seen the last of the Whitechapel Vampire; Sherlock Holmes isn’t so sure. They soon learn the Animus Lacuna, barque of the now infamous Barlucci, was reported lost at sea and a longboat carrying the body of Abigail Drake was recovered by Newfoundland fishermen. On concluding a long day of house calls, Dr. Watson receives an urgent summons to attend his friend, Sherlock Holmes. He arrives at 221B Baker Street to find Holmes in a state of deep shock and wearing scorched clothing that reeks of excrement.

It's Christmas eve at 221B Baker Street. On the stroke of midnight, a delivery arrives addressed to Sherlock Holmes. The Lufton Lady reveals an episode from the early career of Sherlock Holmes an incident that proves the great detective had a heart as well as a brain. The story is told mostly in excerpts from the journal of an aristocrat who finds himself caught up in a dramatic encounter in 1878. The Lufton Lady is a novella by Marlene R. Aig, a noted Sherlockian and member of the Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes who was also a respected Associated Press reporter. It has been largely unknown since her death in 1996, and is now published for the first time.
