You are holding one of the rare stories to come to light involving "Sigerson", the name Sherlock Holmes went by during the years when the world thought he was dead. This story also has the distinction of being the true first sequel to Horace Holly's She, published in 1887 under the byline of Holly's agent, H. Rider Haggard. The only heretofore known sequel, Ayesha: The Return of She, was published in 1904 and records events that occurred two decades after She. The Lufton Lady reveals an episode from the early career of Sherlock Holmes an incident that proves the great detective had a heart as well as a brain. The story is told mostly in excerpts from the journal of an aristocrat who finds himself caught up in a dramatic encounter in 1878. The Lufton Lady is a novella by Marlene R. Aig, a noted Sherlockian and member of the Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes who was also a respected Associated Press reporter. It has been largely unknown since her death in 1996, and is now published for the first time.

The mismatched duo take on bizarre cases which invariably lead into the realms of the supernatural, a shadowy world Quist is all too familiar with. Rex Grant has vanished from a hotel without paying the bill, but the police seem more concerned with the murdered girl in his room. Investigating their friend’s disappearance, Quist and Watson are intrigued.

Gottlieb von Cramm, a German tennis star of the 1930s, petitions Holmes for help. The sportsman is being blackmailed on a matter of the utmost delicacy, and when the blackmailer reveals all to the National Socialist authorities, it is Holmes who comes to the rescue by asking Reichsmarschall, Herman Göring to intervene. But is the better than expected outcome to the case a result of Holmes’ intervention, or is Cramm’s glamourous mother keeping her own role to herself? And why does Frau von Cramm’s seem so familiar to Holmes?
