In The Bean Pie: A Remembering of our Family’s Faith, Fortitude, & Forgiveness, Tiffany Green-Abdullah remembers her ancestors and the generations of African American women who overcame the odds and created a brighter future for her family. Opening with her Second Great Aunt Daisy living as an African American girl in 1910 Alabama, we follow her as she migrates out of the South, establishes herself as a business owner, and creates the original Bean Pie, a food that’s become iconic among Black Muslims and is widely celebrated in the United States.

I have always had an obsession with fatherhood, both as a poorly served recipient and a naive purveyor. Fatherhood is the greatest of gifts. Some long for it but are, sadly, never blessed. Some have it thrust upon them and do magnificently.

Over the course of more than twenty years, James D. Richardson and his wife, Lori, retraced the steps of his ancestor, George Richardson (1824-1911), across nine states, uncovering letters, diaries, and more memoirs hidden away. Their journey brought them to the brink of the racial divide in America, revealing how his great-great-grandfather Richardson played a role in the Underground Railroad, served as a chaplain to a Black Union regiment in the Civil War, and founded a college in Texas for the formerly enslaved.

The story starts with my earliest memories as Florence DiSalvo and continues through my teenage years. The story then turns when I am 16 and becomes the memories of Joseph and Florence Condidorio and their family to the present time. This story tells of the many experiences we encounter over these many years.

Surviving in Black Skin is an illuminating virtual journey within the black skin of the author whose life was abruptly uprooted from his southern home in Mobile, Alabama, and transplanted onto the western coast of Los Angeles, California. The listener learns that his family's abrupt transplantation was part of a much larger southern exodus of people in black skins in reaction to the tortuous lynching of a 14-year-old kid named Emmitt Till. It's quite a paradox that the continued (6500 between 1865 and 1950), like the late George Floyd, didn't limit the murders to the South.

I was born in Yerevan, Armenia (former Soviet Union). I am a biophysicist by profession. I can trace my mother's family history to the 1600s when, in 1604, during the war between Iran and Turkey, Iran's Shah-Abbas took the whole population of a vast area of Armenia to Persia for strategic reasons.
