This place absolutely sucks, and I've been in some pretty terrible places. I would have run myself through with one of my captor's blades long ago if it wasn't for this innocent creature who's dependent on me. I won't let her down. I can't. But I'm only a human on a planet full of monsters. Until I meet the most deadly monster of them all. I hate what the addiction has done to me, but what I resent the most is that I've had to barter with a lowlife Rogastix for my supply. One day, he shows off his new property-a human female. He makes me a deal to protect her until he can exchange her for a healthy supply of Kixx of which I'll get a lion's share.

I don't believe in love. But then again, up until a week or so ago, I didn't believe in aliens either. And yet here I am having been abducted, stranded on a jungle planet, and now surrounded by a tribe of huge, protective aliens with wings and tails. At least these are the good guys. Their leader, Rynn, is convinced I'm the reason the skin on his chest is lit up like a Christmas tree, particularly the area directly above his heart. But that's just some weird alien biochemical reaction. Just like all supposed 'love', right?

It's been a few years since I've landed here on Icehome Beach, and as resonance after resonance dwindled the list of bachelors, I knew who I'd end up with. I'm not a stranger to being behind bars, but this prison leaves a lot to be desired. There are zero communal showers, minimal locking cells, and the other prisoners are extremely hostile. That could be because they are aliens, and this is a prison in another galaxy. Add in the fact that I'm a human female, and my life span has just dropped some serious time. I'm about to go down fighting when a scary blue alien with spikes decides he's my rescuer. Except he doesn't seem happy about my presence and, well, join the club, buddy.

Secrets are powerful. And my feelings for this female might be the greatest one of all. Selene might be the only thing I want more than my freedom. Except she's an enigma. A riddle I can't make sense of but want to solve. When I engage her in a battle of wits, the female plays along. Yet I know she's hiding her motives. And her feelings. It's going to be harder than I thought to discover her secrets. Luckily, I'm clever and a master at creating strategies. If all else fails, then I can always resort to using my venom. Goddess, I hope that ends up being the case.
