Widow Jen Watson's grown boys are on their own, and she's looking forward to having a blissful summer at the family beach house with her lifelong best friends, for the first time in years—until she finds out her family has been scheming to sell it. She begins to teach him her craft, but as their friendship flourishes, social pressures become impossible to escape.

Brzeziny, Poland, 1939. Zofia's comfortable lifestyle overturns when her husband, Jabez, who monitors Nazi activity, has gone missing. Rather than fleeing the country with her young son, as she had promised Jabez who is fearing retaliation, she decides to stay. She cannot possibly leave her friend, Aanya. Now, more than ever with war looming, Zofia will do whatever is necessary to protect her family and Aanya.
