"Every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding," says Ebenezer Scrooge. Fate intervenes and Pip is sent to the household of Miss Havisham, a wealthy and eccentric spinster. Pip shares the household with Miss Havisham and her beautiful, but cold, adopted daughter Estella.

This novel, Charles Dickens' first, includes letters and manuscripts about the Pickwick Club's activities and romances. The benevolent business man Pickwick and his fellow members Snodgrass the poet, Tupman the lover and Winkle the sportsman, along with loyal valet Samuel Weller are just a few of the characters (or caricatures) who made this book an immediate success.

First published in monthly parts from March 1852 to September 1853, this novel follows the fortunes of three pedestrian characters; Esther Summerson, Ada Clare, and Richard Carstone. The story they tell embondies Dickens' merciless indictment of the Court of Chancery and its bungling, morally corrupt handling of the endless case of Jarndyce v. Jarndyce, giving the novel its scope and meaning.

Pip's life was stricken with tragedy as a small boy, being orphaned with the loss of his mother, father, and siblings. Pip forms a relationship with the odd Miss Havisham and her lovely adopted daughter, Estella. An anonymous benefactor whisks Pip away from the life he once knew and the people he cared for to one of class and high society. When his beloved Estella enters his life once more after many years apart, she denies him the affections he longs for.

Ebenezer Scrooge is a miser who lords over his poor employee, Bob Cratchit, and hates the joys that Christmas affords everyone but himself. After being exceptionally miserable at the office on the day of Christmas Eve, Scrooge returns home to be haunted by three spirits who attempt to motivate a change in the old man's demeanor - lest he continue on his current path and face almost certain eternal damnation.

Originally published in the 1853 Christmas edition of Dickens's journal Household Words, The Schoolboy's Story recounts the tale of Old Cheeseman, a schoolboy who becomes the second Latin Master, and his former peers who consider him a traitor for doing it. This version of The Schoolboy's Story was recorded as part of Dreamscape's The Christmas Stories of Charles Dickens.
