Mother Goose in Prose is a collection of 22 stories by L. Frank Baum (author of The Wizard of Oz). The stories are based on the Mother Goose nursery rhymes. Mother Goose’s legendary character was that of an older mother and grandmother who spent her days singing songs to her grandchildren and the other children in her town.

This charming fable about unruly ambition and its inevitable consequences first appeared in The Delineator magazine in 1905.

An imaginative work first published in 1902, L. Frank Baum’s The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus tells the story of Claus, an orphaned boy raised by various immortal creatures in an enchanted forest. When he reaches adulthood, Claus is told to live among mortals; he is disheartened initially by poverty, war, and other negative aspects of humanity. He becomes well-known for his kindness to children, and this enthusiasm leads to the invention of the first toys.

Santa Claus, as a baby, is found in the Forest of Burzee by Ak, the Master Woodsman of the World (a supreme immortal), and placed in the care of the lioness Shiegra; but thereupon adopted by the Wood Nymph, Necile. Upon reaching young adulthood, Claus is introduced by Ak to human society, wherein he sees poverty and difficulties. Because he cannot reside in Burzee as an adult, he settles in the nearby Laughing Valley of Hohaho, where the immortals regularly assist him, and Necile gives him a little cat named Blinky.

The Road to Oz takes Dorothy on an adventure in Oz to a grand party in honor of Ozma's birthday. It starts near her home on Uncle Henry's farm in Kansas when she helps a shaggy stranger find the road he is seeking.
