Luke Mbeki has never been a fan of politics. His family knows this about him. As well as his friends. Even his colleagues are privy to this fact. He is therefore left bewildered when he finds himself in the middle of not one, but two cases that involve opposing political parties. When he is coerced into pledging his allegiance to one political campaign after the murder of a prominent person on their team, he knows he's definitely bitten off more than he can chew.

Luke thought he had gotten the easiest case in his budding career as a private investigator. He felt sorry for the client who was paying him and promised he’d get it resolved in record time. Everything was going according to plan…until shady characters, hazardous encounters, and the death of a key witness rendered his easy case the worst nightmare from the pit of hell. When he's identified as a suspect in the murder, he realizes he's been on nothing but the road to disaster.

The message on the tipline prompts local reporter Ginger Burrows to look deeper into the case. At the same time, DCI Kevin Greggs starts his own review of the police’s original investigation. Dr Ethan Quinn finds himself torn between his responsibility to Arthur as his doctor and his urge to find out if his patient is really guilty of Amy’s murder. They all find themselves drawn into a web of criminality and exploitation, where uncovering the truth might be too much of a risk to take.
