Peter Rabbit has no appetite, which is very unusual for him. After thinking about it, Peter decides it is loneliness affecting him. He decides to leave the Old Briar Patch and see the Great World, starting at the Old Pasture. After a close encounter with an old nemesis, Hooty the Owl, Peter discovers that he is still lonely. He runs into Old Jed Thumper who wants nothing more than to chase Peter away. Peter also discovers that Old Jed Thumper has a charming young daughter, Little Miss Fuzzy Tail, who Peter falls for. Their relationship quickly blossoms.

Paddy Muskrat lives in the millpond near Farmer Green's house with his wife, Mrs. Paddy Muskrat. He tends to get into trouble by saying and doing things that others do not understand, which occasionally causes problems with Mrs. Paddy. For example, when Paddy says he has fish to fry, which means he is very busy, others in the millpond interpret his words to mean it is eating fish they believe belong to them. Patty believes the millpond belongs to him and is never happy when others come to swim in it, especially Johnny Green and his friends.

Heavy water. The Joint Army-Navy Intelligence Group, (JANIG), a science secret service has discovered that someone is shipping heavy water, often used for atomic purposes, from a secret source in Asia. JANIG's mission is to make sure that science does not get misused. A coded telegram is received by Rick Brandt on Spindrift Island from his Hindu friend Chada. Spindrift Island is a scientific research facility off the coast of New Jersey. After decoding the telegram, Hanson Brandt, Rick's father telephones JANIG to discuss the telegram's contents.

Reddy Woodpecker is new to Pleasant Valley. Flying over Pleasant Valley one day, he decided to land and decided that it would be a good place for him to live. Reddy was strange to his new neighbors and some were rude and did not make him feel welcome but Reddy took it all in stride. As with all of Arthur Scott Bailey's animal stories, there are lessons to be learned about real life. For example, when Reddy met Cuffy Bear and they went hunting for grubs together, we learn about greed. Children are also introduced to new and different kinds of birds and their nesting and eating habits.

Solomon Owl lives in Pleasant Valley. As with most owls, he is a loner. He doesn't have many friends and instead, often sees others smaller than him as food rather than friends. We discover how Solomon deals with other animals in the Pleasant Valley woods such as Mr. Frog the Tailor, Cousin Screecher, Fatty Coon, Mr. Crow, noisy Jasper Jay, and Aunt Polly Woodchuck the herb doctor. The characters in Bailey's books can be grumpy and predatory and will bite when aroused. Traditional virtues - honesty, reliability, loyalty, perseverance - are encouraged and rewarded.

Spot is a farm dog. His master is Johnny Green, son of Farmer and Mrs. Green. As with many dogs, Spot manages to get into his share of scrapes. He has run-ins with some of the farm animals, most notably Miss Kitty Cat. Miss Kitty Cat and Spot have their battles, and Spot has the scars on his nose to prove it. Miss Kitty Cat would be happy if Spot were not on the farm at all. Henrietta Hen and Turkey Proudfoot are also not very fond of Spot. Spot wants to be included in most of the Green family's activities, and this leads to some interesting problems for them and Spot.

In this collection of 16 short stories, Peter Rabbit learns how many of his neighbors in the Green Forest and the Green Meadows have come to have the attributes they have. Sometimes Grandfather Frog will tell Peter a story but there are other neighbors who also share their "knowledge" with him. For example, Peter wants to know why Mr. Weasel is an outcast. Peter would also like to know why Johnny Chuck sleeps all winter and gets so fat before he goes to sleep.

Jolly Robin is a happy go lucky bird. He does tend, however, to stick his nose into other animals' business and believes that perhaps, they should sing or act like him. For example, Jolly believes that the way he sings is the best way and other birds should sound like he does. Jolly tries to convince some they should change their tune. Since many things in the world are new to him, he also sometimes makes and spreads mistakes to his acquaintances with some unpredictable events.

Ken Holt is the son of a world-famous foreign correspondent named Richard Holt. Holt travels the world and is home infrequently. Ken's mother is no longer alive and Ken lives with the Allen family. One of his closest friends is Sandy Allen. Sandy and Ken both at the Brentwood Advance, a local newspaper. Things start off innocently enough as Ken's father comes to stay with the Allen's for the Christmas holiday. Naturally he brings gifts. For Mom Allen, he has brought an ornate iron box. The box is old but apparently, not very valuable.

Peter Rabbit has a great deal of curiosity and loves to hear stories. In this collection of 16 short stories, Peter Rabbit learns more about many of his neighbors in the Green Forest and the Green Meadows. For example, Peter wants to know why Mr. Bluebird has a beautiful coat when he can be such a bratty bird. Peter would also like to know why Mr. Hare gets a white coat in the winter and a brown one in the summer.

Brownie Beaver lives in a village near Farmer Green's house. It is a different village than you and I would live in. All the houses are built in a pond. And all their doors are underwater. But that doesn't matter because they are all good swimmers. So begins The Tale of Brownie Beaver as we are introduced to beavers and other pond dwellers. Arthur Bailey, the author, gives each of water creatures a personality and like any good children's book, teaches us about their behaviors while promoting good moral values.

The Boy Scouts of Woodcraft Camp is the first of Thornton Burgess' Boy Scout books. It features Walter, a scout who has never been to camp. Walter and his fellow scouts experience new adventures. They discover and appreciate people of different backgrounds. As with all Thornton Burgess books, the author promotes good moral lessons for the young reader and listener.

Mother West Wind's Animal Friends is the first in the series of Mother West Wind books by Thornton W. Burgess. In this book, we learn about the Merry Little Breezes of Mother West Wind, are introduced to Prickly Porky, and discover that Peter Rabbit tends to get into more trouble than he should. We also get more of Grandfather Frog's "when the world was young" fables. Like all Thornton Burgess books, there are good moral lessons for young readers and listeners. Each story is about five to 10 minutes in length which makes them ideal bedtime stories.

The Bojabi Tree is a version of a traditional West African story. Scarce rainfall has hit the African plains. Animals are becoming more and more desperate to find something to eat when they happen upon an amazing tree with enticing fruit. The problem is that they don’t know the name of the tree and if the fruit is safe to eat. The starving animals decide to send messengers to King Leo, the king of the beasts, to learn the name of the tree. But each messenger returns having forgotten the name of the tree.

Buster Bear's Twins is a story about two new residents in the Green Forest, Boxer and Woof Woof bear. The arrival of the Green Forest's newest inhabitants has Peter Rabbit, Chatterer the Red Squirrel, Prickly Porky, Hooty the Owl, and other forest creatures all astir over the goings-on in the Bear household. The two are twin siblings of Buster Bear, who is the subject of a Thornton Burgess audiobook. The twins, under the guidance of their mother, Mrs. Bear, learn important lessons about life and survival in the Green Forest.

The novel's protagonist, a tyrant called The Master, attempts to control civilization by using a madness-inducing drug, hence the title "Murder Madness". Our champion, Charly Bell, is a member of a super-secret group named the Trade which does not officially exist. He is covertly sent on a mission to discover why seven United States Secret Service men have disappeared in South America. Another is found - a screaming homicidal maniac. It is rumored that they are victims of a diabolical poison which produces the "murder madness."

Tryon Dunham, a wealthy attorney is approached by a young woman who is running from some unknown danger. She is beautiful, well dressed, and obviously educated. She won't tell the young man why she's running, but he decides he will help her. Tryon arranges to take her along to a dinner party to which he has an invitation. At the dinner party, "Mary" (the name Tryon has given her) plays the piano beautifully and charms his hostess and the other guests. But, she is desperate to escape, so he provides her a ticket for a train to Chicago. ....He decides he must find her again.

In this collection of stories, we follow Buster, who is born on the river and lives with his mother as a cub. While his mother is out hunting for food, Buster meets Loup the lynx who has only bad intentions. Buster manages to escape from Loup and ends up on a series of adventures he could not imagine.

Bumper is a young white rabbit who lived in the city but escaped from a pen where a nice little red-headed girl had put him. After avoiding some dreadful animals, Bumper has ended up in the woods where he is mistaken for the promised king because he is white and has pink eyes. Bumper quickly realizes that he does not have forest smarts and sets about to learn all he can about the woods hoping to fit in with the rest of the forest rabbits. He quickly finds out that the forest is not what he expected.

Bumper is a young white rabbit who lives in the city, in a crowded pen with lots of other rabbits. The old woman who raises bunnies takes a few downtown every day to try to sell them. Bumper is sold to Aunt Helen who gives him to Toby, a spoiled nephew. Toby mistreats Bumper, and a little red-headed girl named Edith takes Bumper from Toby to rescue him. After being put outside in a pen, Bumper manages to escape the pen and his adventures, some not so nice, begin. Eventually, Bumper manages to meet some of his forest cousins, not to return again to the little red-headed girl.
