You are holding one of the rare stories to come to light involving "Sigerson", the name Sherlock Holmes went by during the years when the world thought he was dead. This story also has the distinction of being the true first sequel to Horace Holly's She, published in 1887 under the byline of Holly's agent, H. Rider Haggard. The only heretofore known sequel, Ayesha: The Return of She, was published in 1904 and records events that occurred two decades after She. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is one of the most written about men who ever lived but despite this, some parts of his life get little attention. One such period is between 1891 and 1894 when he lived in South Norwood in present day south east London. During this period, he wrote and published much of his best work including the first two series of Sherlock Holmes short stories. The Lufton Lady reveals an episode from the early career of Sherlock Holmes an incident that proves the great detective had a heart as well as a brain. The story is told mostly in excerpts from the journal of an aristocrat who finds himself caught up in a dramatic encounter in 1878. The Lufton Lady is a novella by Marlene R. Aig, a noted Sherlockian and member of the Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes who was also a respected Associated Press reporter. It has been largely unknown since her death in 1996, and is now published for the first time.

In 1901, Arthur Conan Doyle "resurrected" Holmes for what turned out to be his most popular story, The Hound of the Baskervilles. It first appeared as nine episodes in the British edition of The Strand Magazine. The first episode was accompanied by a brief footnote that acknowledged the assistance provided by a young journalist called Bertram Fletcher Robinson. Almost immediately, there was speculation about the extent of Fletcher Robinson's contribution to the narrative of the story. Fletcher Robinson's early death did little to end such speculation.
