Empty nested and eager to start a new chapter in life, Quinn Delaney is almost ready to open her new lakeside café in the small town of Bookend Bay. Recently divorced, Quinn has enough on her hands trying to win a culinary contest to put her new cafe on the map. One cordial short of an entry, she doesn't have time to help her new renter exorcise an evil spirit from her house. And then she finds the woman's body face down in her kitchen. As Quinn begins to unravel the mystery behind her tenant's murder and her brother's sudden avoidance, she suspects something far more sinister is at play in Bookend Bay.

With her new café thriving, Quinn is trying to keep up with the bizarre twist her life has taken. But when her best friend Toni's cousin shows up with a suitcase, a mysterious man, and a risky request, Quinn makes a decision that lands her in hot water. Things take a turn for the worse when the police arrest the cousin for murder. Faced with a slack sheriff, a growing list of suspects, and a missing fortune, the two midlife friends dive into the investigation while Quinn grapples with the moral implications of enlisting her unpredictable ghostly companions to uncover the truth.

When Quinn, her kids, and best friend travel across the county to visit family, their vacation becomes an investigation into the disappearance and possible murder of an offbeat neighbor with an outlandish claim. But that's not all that's amiss. Something is causing Quinn's daughter-in-law to act like she's losing her marbles. And Quinn's aunt isn't her normal self and is suddenly afraid of a faery visitor.
