The Fractured Scale

Verhue and Yinashol are runaway slaves crossing a dangerous and unfamiliar country. Each time the untrained Yinashol uses magic to keep them safe, her power diminishes her soul. As Verhue knows all too well, Yinashol can’t continue this way without it killing her. Traversing the forests, mountains and rivers of the Fractured Scale, they encounter friends and escape from slave hunters, each confrontation calling for the power Yinashol should not use.

Chasing down the greatest power in the world, they discover that the end of the world may have already started. Propelled by ambition and a desire for justice, Jom-Jas leads his friends Verhue, Trella and Quichai through a treacherous wilderness toward the mysterious Island of Shruu. There, they may find the power Jom-Jas seeks, or a madman playing god. Escaped slave Yinashol grapples with her new life, trying to find her place in an unfamiliar world. Touched by a darkness that threatens to engulf their world, she discovers her purpose and embarks on a mission crucial to the survival of all.
