Charley's life changed dramatically the summer she turned 13, after she and her friends snuck into a supposedly haunted building on a dare. A fun-filled summer and first love ended in trauma. She is now a boring, reclusive adult overwhelmed with responsibilities, watching life pass her by. Charley is amazed to see her childhood sweetheart, the handsome and brave, Jacob Stone, on TV with his popular ghost hunting TV show. He comes back to town and wants his old friends to return to investigate the haunted former insane asylum that still haunts them all today.

Charley continues developing her psychic abilities as she searches for her mother, who disappeared 14 years ago after being possessed by an evil spirit. Will the handsome and daring new private investigator Charley hired to help track down her mother come between her and Jake's new relationship? Why is Jake suddenly acting strangely and having blanks in his memory? Professional ghost hunters Jake and Charley return to the beach cottage they first visited several months ago on a romantic trip. There, they encountered the troubled spirit of a college student, Jack Thomas, who died on Spring Break under questionable circumstances. This time they bring with them the entire crew of the TV show Paranormal Explorers to investigate the mystery and hopefully help his spirit find rest.
