White House Clubhouse

Their mom is the newly elected President of the United States, the Secret Service is always hovering nearby, and First Daughters Marissa and Clara don’t expect they’ll be venturing out anytime soon—until they discover a secret passage in the White House dining room and a candlelit clubhouse full of antique curiosities and mysterious doors. The candle blows out, a door opens, and the girls find themselves in the White House of President Teddy Roosevelt and his boisterous family.

When the clubhouse fills with smoke, First Daughters Marissa and Clara escape to find themselves in James Madison’s presidency, with the White House and capital city ablaze at the hands of invading British troops. Pursued by the redcoats, the sisters race through the countryside as the War of 1812 rages all around them. Over rough roads, through naval battles, and on the ramparts of Baltimore’s Fort McHenry—where they lend a hand composing “The Star-Spangled Banner”—Marissa and Clara help save a young nation while confronting the contradictions that challenge what it means to be free.

Along with Roosevelt grandchildren Buzzie and Sistie, the chase takes Clara and Marissa from the factory floor to the skies with Amelia Earhart, through encounters with historical figures—and keeps listeners guessing up to its dramatic end on a river cruise with Franklin and Eleanor.
