My learning is to continue. I have now passed all of my exams, leaving me free to devote more time to training in the dojo. What's still unknown is whether this change is about to be the biggest challenge for me in the months to come, or whether the masters are already dreaming up some new ordeal for me....

I could have been anything I wanted: a chef, a chauffeur, a pianist, an artist, an aristocrat . . . but where would the fun be in that? In my past life, I'd been one of the world's greatest demonologists, and horned lords and masters of the inferno had cringed and trembled with terror at my name. That name, in fact, was still around, still making demons tremble. And that was only the beginning, because in this world, I'd chosen to become a soldier. Why? Simple! The army turned out to be a total madhouse that obeyed no reason, and the only way to understand it was to experience it.

They were just a bunch of ordinary demonologists trying to summon an ordinary demon...but at the moment of summoning, something went wrong. Still, demon or demonologist—what was the difference to them, anyway? Either way, they were going to have fun.

The road had been long and hard, but there was no guarantee that what I'd been through would be enough to turn me into the person my mentors saw me as. I had too many questions still ahead of me. But ahead of me today was another training session in the dojo, which meant I would get my answers later. If I survived, of course.

Bet you're surprised, right? The thing is, most of my teachers say I'm a hopeless, talentless loser. No big deal, at first glance at least. I can survive just fine without talent.
