The streets teach what no traditional dojo can. Unforgiving, unpredictable, and ruthless, the streets leave no room for courtesy, choreography, or hesitation. People aren’t there to help you—they’re there to hurt you. Period. Traditional training environments may help you memorize techniques, but memorization is not mastery. True skill is earned under resistance, pressure, and unpredictability. Technique is only tested when the outcome is uncertain.

This book aims to provide the general listener and the martial arts enthusiast with a practical approach and understanding of the development of a personal protection system. Self-defense on the streets is a contrast when compared to the way one thinks, trains, and acts within the confines of a training hall. Self-defense is not so much about technique as it is about seconds! Both in how one will react or diffuse a situation without the need for violence!

If not given a choice, do not give a chance. When confronted with the possibility of physical aggression, action saves the day. Being passive does not work. If given a choice, then do not take the chance. Walk away!! If you can walk away, then do so.

Throughout my years of training in the martial arts, the topic of knife defenses has come up often. More often than not, none of the proposed techniques would work. In fact, if pursued, they would get you killed. Knife attacks on the street are close, fast, and furious. Nine out of ten times, you will get cut or stabbed--this is a fact. The attacker will rush, grab, and gore/stab in a piston-like fashion, with successive strikes! Rarely do people walk away from such an encounter unscathed.
