This book is the compilation of selections from over four books of poetry written by Steven W Bates and has been created specifically as a resource for www.poemspeak.org to contain only poems written about the struggles and situations created by living with PTSD, depression, and suicidal thoughts. It is the purpose of Poemspeak and the author to provide the listener with awareness that they are not alone in the hardships and hazards of these conditions, and that they can survive, and thrive, while still learning to cope with and manage life with PTSD and depression.

Steven Bates writes his fourth poetry book, again dealing with content that affects us all, from PTSD and depression, inspiration, and motivation to even touching on the pandemic and politics. Steven invites his friend and fellow poet Jennifer Fehrn to add her collection of poetry to this book in hopes that even more persons may be reached and helped by perhaps a different viewpoint, style, and perspective.

I’m the only one to have walked the cobblestones of the Most High. I’m the only one to have seduced a woman and made her walk away from everything she loved and cherished. I’m the only one who can convinced a person steadfast in their faith, to throw it all away for riches beyond their wildest dreams.

Steven Bates lives a busy life working with non-profits for suicide prevention, helping others with PTSD to obtain service dogs, and running his own non-profit to comfort those who suffer from mental illness. Those experiences have inspired his poetry. He wrote it with the sincere hope to honor those who sacrificed for their country and to remind those who struggle of how they can thrive in the face of adversity.

Steven Bates, USAF, has put together a variety of his poems written through his career and deployments as well as his personal life and suicide attempts. It is his hope that somewhere in this book one of his poems will strike a chord in another person and help him or her through a very tough or precarious situation in their life and help them to also realize they are not alone in their struggle.

Steven Bates fires off another salvo of poems. He searches for and ponders the mutual, common ground. All these poems were written after his retirement from 18 years of military service. He shares his thoughts on depression, and life in general.
