While in town on other business, Kyle decides to drop by and visit his late dad's best friend Eugene. They reminisce about times gone by, and once Eugene feels comfortable, he tells Kyle something strange. Eugene's son Larry thinks he's a vampire. Once Eugene convinces Kyle it isn't a joke, he pleads with him to spend time with Larry. He thinks that if his son can be around a peer with more on the ball, he would get inspired to come back to reality and make something of himself.

The year is 1981, and 21-year-old Kevin Foster is listless. He still lives at home, and is house sitting while his parents are on a business trip. He is also hopelessly in love with his neighbor and former classmate Marlene. As he checks the attic for rats one day, he finds a pewter candle holder, and things quickly get weird. He starts catching glimpses of a hooded figure around the house, and begins having terrible and very detailed death dreams.
