Number One
When we have a traumatic experience, our brain and body react in a way that makes it difficult to remember the details of the experience. The details are stored in our unconscious mind, and we re-experience them in ways that are difficult to recognize.

Traumas can be passed on from one generation to the next. Psychotherapy is beginning to point beyond the traumas of the individual to include traumatic events in family and social history as a part of the whole picture.

Trauma also has a biological effect on the body, which can be inherited by future generations. For instance, children of Holocaust survivors with PTSD were born with low cortisol levels similar to their parents’. This predisposed the children to relive the PTSD symptoms of the previous generation.
